Further sketches with additional icons.

Original Icon Designs

Original Icon Designs in living color, patterned for mass-production.

Initial Sketches

These are the initial sketches. They're all over the place.

These sketches are based on the unification of monopoly as a city. There is an obvious city element here, but it is simplified into varying rectangles.

This sketch is based on one idea: Monopoly is about the flux of wealth. This flux is directed by movement throughout the board. I attempted to use modernist principles to convey these ideas.

New Project: Modernopoly

The new project is a redesign of the game Monopoly(tm) with a twist from the modernist design movement. This movement lasted from 1920-1960, and was a reaction to the development of methods allowing for faster communication and the ability to mass-produce artwork that far exceeded previous advancements. This led to an increased importance placed on design, which had to first be recreated.

Artists training previous to the modernist movement were judged by their ability to duplicate previous methods. This art was filled with frilly motifs and highly detailed. The modernist movement favored things that were new and simplified down to their most basic meanings. These notions allowed for design to communicate more effectively, birthing design as we know it today.

The new project will be for teams of two to four to use modernist principles to redesign the entire game of monopoly- from the board to the pieces to the rulebook. However, there's little time to do so!

final banana

sorry about the white margin, but this is the final design for the banana poster. I tried some experimental things with this, such as the names, stages and shapes of bananas being separated but easily able to be reconnected by the viewer. I think this added a simple puzzle that the viewer can put together with some fun, while also keeping a clean but fun aesthetic.

i also added a root system to separate the border color from the color of the bananas and banana stem. I tried using a gradient and simply cutting the color off with a line, but neither of these things looked good. The roots system further tied the title to the bananas, while also providing visual interest and an organic element to the foreground.

I wish I had solidified my ideas sooner to get additional feedback. However, given the time restraints and my late blooming of ideas, I think this project turned out fairly well, in all.

this is the general work to date. so much banana-y goodness!
