New Project: Modernopoly

The new project is a redesign of the game Monopoly(tm) with a twist from the modernist design movement. This movement lasted from 1920-1960, and was a reaction to the development of methods allowing for faster communication and the ability to mass-produce artwork that far exceeded previous advancements. This led to an increased importance placed on design, which had to first be recreated.

Artists training previous to the modernist movement were judged by their ability to duplicate previous methods. This art was filled with frilly motifs and highly detailed. The modernist movement favored things that were new and simplified down to their most basic meanings. These notions allowed for design to communicate more effectively, birthing design as we know it today.

The new project will be for teams of two to four to use modernist principles to redesign the entire game of monopoly- from the board to the pieces to the rulebook. However, there's little time to do so!
